The Pioneer Black Journalist Awards is the signature event of the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists. At this program, the organization presents its highest honors: Pioneer Black Journalist and Volunteer of the Year.

Please nominate a person who you believe is deserving of each of these awards. Nominations open online at aabj.org on Monday, March 4. Nominations close on Monday, March 11.

The award criteria is listed below:

Award criteria for Pioneer Black Journalist

• Ten years experience as a working journalist in the Atlanta market (freelance or otherwise)

• Good standing with AABJ

• Does not have to be a member of the national organization (NABJ)

• Nominating party or individual must submit reason for nomination (work history, community service, career superlatives, etc.)

• May not have received the honor previously

• Must be a member of AABJ (dues must be current at time of nomination)

• Must have shown diligence and commitment to AABJ

• Nominating party or individual must submit reason for nomination (outline examples of service to AABJ)

• May not have received honor previously
